Computer Hardware, OS, and Software

The Hardware you use should be capable of running the OS and Software you install, handle the file sizes you create and store your work in progress.

The Operating System should provide a stable platform and an interface for you to access your files and programmes.

The Software should enable you to carry out the tasks you need to work on your images.

All computers used by photographers are PCs (Personal Computers)
There are two makes of computer processors used in digital imaging Personal Computers. About 80% of computers run Intel chips and AMD who account for the bulk of the remaining 20%. Apple make approx 6% of the worlds PCs and also use Intel processors.

 

  

All PCs have basically the same architecture and are built from the same range of components.

All computers have: Motherboards, Processors, Memory, Hard-disks, Graphics cards and Monitors, although the size and speed of components will vary.
